Floral Preservation FAQ

I didn’t even know modern floral preservation was a thing until I began looking into it for my sister’s wedding bouquet. All I knew is that there had to be a better way than air drying your bouquet by hanging it upside down and praying nothing bad happened to it. While air dried flowers can turn out beautiful, oftentimes they shrink, wrinkle, become brittle, fall apart and even change colors drastically.

When I began looking into floral preservation, I learned that, not only were there multiple ways to dry flowers so that they turn out gorgeous, but they could be preserved to last forever. Here are some commonly asked questions about floral preservation and our pieces.

What options for flowers are there?

We can preserve fresh flowers provided by you (within 48 hours of receiving), air dried or silk flowers provided by you, or we can recreate an arrangement by ordering flowers and preserving those.

What is the process?

We begin by drying your flowers. Depending on the flower, drying times and methods will vary. While we accept and preserve air dried flowers, we do not prefer to air dry them, but will in a pinch. Our methods include but are not limited to, silica gel, food dehydrators, ovens and microwaves, the best and most popular of these methods being the silica gel.

We then layout/design your piece and will send you an image for your approval. Time is of the essence with this process so we can only accept one edit on your design.

Once a design is agreed upon, we begin the preservation process of casting them in epoxy resin, a chemical material that begins as a two part liquid but cures into a solid. Once this process occurs multiple times over several days, the piece is lovingly checked for any imperfections, demolded, sanded and corners cut, top coat applied and then will be ready for delivery!

How long does the process take?

Drying times for flowers vary from a day or two, to sometimes a week, depending on the flower itself and availability. Then the casting/pouring process takes several days, depending on the size of the piece. Resin must be poured in layers to avoid a chemical reaction, and takes 24 hours to cure completely. So on larger pieces, this process may take several days.

This is why we ask for a minimum of 4-6 months to complete a piece or package and do not accept same day orders or rush orders.

Why are estimates provided instead of exact costs?

We will need to know the flowers we are working with and what is being ordered before we can provide an exact cost. As mentioned, flower times vary and so does the casting process depending on what is ordered. So the exact cost will vary. We will provide a final cost before flowers are provided to us.

What should I expect my piece to look like? Will my flowers look the same?

Your flowers will not look exactly the same, but some will look very similar or almost exactly like the original, depending on the flower. Your piece may come with some imperfections, like bubbles, but such is the case with all art pieces. We will do our absolute best to prevent any imperfections, but please be aware they may occur.

Are there any care instructions for my pieces?

Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not clean with harsh chemicals. Do not put in the dishwasher, soak in water or scrub.

What pieces and/or packages do you offer?

We do not offer any packages at this time, however we will automatically apply a 10% off bundle discount when you purchase 2 or more items.
